I had the TOUGH job of trying out a new bakery in Draper, called Sweet Arleen’s. Sweet Arleen’s may sound familiar to you if you watch the Food Network show, Cupcake Wars. Sweet Arleen’s is a three time winner of Cupcake Wars.
While living in California, Utah native, Randy Lang fell in love with Sweet Arleen’s gourmet cupcakes and bread puddings (especially the red velvet cupcakes). Last fall, Randy decided to bring his favorite bakery to Utah and opened the first Sweet Arleen’s outside of California because he wanted a business that would make people happy and would “put a smile on the face of each person that comes through the doors”.
Sweet Arleen’s is located at 129 E 13800 S in Draper (near the Draper Harmon’s). The store is beautifully decorated. I loved the modern blue and white interior. It felt upscale but very inviting. There is a long “cupcake counter” with 5 stools if you want to stay to eat your treats.
One thing I noticed during my visit to Sweet Arleen’s is that the customer service was top notch. Everyone was greeted quickly and sincerely. The employees were knowledgeable and able to answer questions and offer suggestions easily.
Megan, the manager, was wonderful to meet with me and show me around the store. She also does most of the baking and has traveled to California to train under Arleen Scavone. Megan said that one of the things she loves about Sweet Arleen’s is that they use high quality products and make everything from scratch. They offer cupcakes, bread pudding, cake pops and cheesecakes, in a variety of flavors. They also offer gluten free cupcakes, bread pudding and cake pops. Sugar free items are available but must be preordered. Sweet Arleen's also makes beautiful wedding cakes and tiered cakes for any occasion.
I brought home a variety of cupcakes, bread pudding, cake pops and cheesecakes to try (I love my job). Luckily for me I had 6 other (very happy) taste testers to help me. My husband loves cheesecake so the chocolate raspberry cheesecake was his favorite and the apple pie cupcake came in second.
My favorite cupcakes were the chocolate and the red velvet. I tried a regular red velvet and a gluten free red velvet and I would definitely recommend both. (Some gluten free baked goods aren’t very good but this cupcake had a wonderful taste and texture and was very similar to the regular red velvet.)
My younger kids liked the cake pops, they were very moist and the perfect size for them.
The older kids had fun trying the peanut butter and jelly bread pudding (it’s served warm and has a wonderful strawberry sauce on it).
So, now that your mouth is watering, you’ll want to know about a sale that is happening July 1-3, 2015. When you buy 4 cupcakes you'll get 4 cake pops free! No coupon is needed for this promotion.
Groupon also has several different options that can easily save you up to 40% off. (I used a Groupon when I went and it was a “piece of cake”.)
