The Leonardo is launching it's first completely original blockbuster exhibit in August, entitled FLIGHT. Unlike many other exhibits at The Leonardo, this exhibit is homegrown in Utah and will be a semi-permanent exhibit that will be on display for the next few years.
We got a sneak peak last night and it's pretty amazing. To celebrate this new exhibit, they are having a Liftoff Festival tomorrow, August 6 from 10am-5pm on Library Square. The festival is FREE to the public and perfect for kids of all ages.
The festival will include a Hot Air Balloon, EAA Planes, The Airforce X-1 Super Car, Flight Trainer, Drones and so much more!
You will definitely want to grab tickets to check out this one of a kind exhibit!
About The New FLIGHT Exhibit:
- Within the main exhibit area there will be several stations exploring the various parts of flight. You’ll be able to watch an actual bi-plane be built, taken apart and re-built again. You’ll explore different types of flight – everything from hot air balloon flight to different types of planes to rocket flight and beyond.
- The crowning jewel of the exhibit is a giant, C-131 aircraft. The aircraft is so large that to get it into the museum, we actually had to take off part of the wall of the building. Additionally, the wingspan is so big that it only clears the walls of the exhibit by six inches on either side. What’s better is that this isn’t just an airplane you can look at it. You can get up on the wings of the airplane and run from one side to the other. You can get in the cockpit and mess with all the buttons, levers and gadgets. You can slide out the back of the airplane on our giant slide. You can even get in and take a look at the fuselage and how things are put together and learn how airplanes are built and work.
- There will also be three hyper-realistic flight simulators provided by Rockwell Collins so you can get in and fly all sorts of missions, planes and other things to get your blood pumping.
- As you exit the experience, you’ll be treated to an exploration of the future of Flight and space travel, taking with you the idea that there is still a world to be explored and that our future lies in exploring the vast, eternal sky.
