Amazon has my favorite sized Black & Decker 3 Cups Uncooked Yields 6 Cups Cooked, Rice Cooker on sale for $13.82. Price compare to Walmart for $19. It has great reviews on both sites.
I have a rice cooker this same size and love it. We use it at least once a week!
One of our favorites is a rice mixture I use in almost every rice casserole I make. It's great with veggies or in a Chicken and Soup casserole. It's also delicious with the new Philadelphia Cooking Cream added in.
Combine
- 2 cups rice (makes about 5 cups cooked)
- 3 cups water
- 1-2 cloves of garlic (or use a 1 1/2 t. bottled minced)
- 1 1/2 t. Italian Seasoning
- Salt and Pepper to taste
Start the cooker and let the rice go for about 12-15 minutes. Stir and add another 1/2 cup of water. **Note: you may have restart the cooker. Let the rice go another 5 minutes. Add another 1/2 cup water and stir again. Continue to cook for 5-7 more minutes. You are basically making a sticky style rice. Allow rice to absorb the last of the water and turn off cooker.
The rice turns out with a great sticky consistency and by adding the garlic in as it cooks, it melts away and leaves a nice flavor. You can accomplish the same thing on the stove with no problem. Just be sure to watch over the rice to keep it from burning.
