6 Ways to Celebrate Dr. Seuss’s Birthday At Any Age
We adore Dr. Seuss books at our house. My husband grew up loving Dr. Seuss’s books and he has made sure that we read them to our kids. I love the rhymes and illustrations because they keep the youngest of readers interested until the very end of the book. March 2 is Dr. Seuss's Birthday also known as “Read Across America Day” and we have come up with 6 Ways To Celebrate Dr. Seuss's Birthday At Any Age!
1. Donate books to a local classroom or you can donate money to one of the many charities that provides books to under priveleged students. Reach Out And Read is a wonderful organization that puts books in the hands of pediatricians who can pass them onto patients and “prescribe” reading together as a family. They operate in all 50 states and have been doing so for 30 years.
2. Visit a library and check out one of Dr. Seuss’s lesser-known titles. You might want to try “Wacky Wednesday”, “The Sneetches” or “Oh The Thinks You Can Think”. There is also Dr. Seuss's newest book, “What Pet Should I Get“. The manuscript was found after Dr. Seuss's death and published in 2015.
If you are a little too old for Dr. Seuss books, then find a new book that peaks your interest and get reading!
3. Watch a Dr. Seuss movie. Even teens will want to plop down on the couch with some popcorn and watch The Lorax (2012), The Cat In The Hat (2003) or Horton Hears a Who (2008).
- Eat Green Eggs & Ham for Dinner. Here's a fun recipe that doesn't require any green dye.
5. Go online and check out Seussville. Kids can play games, download free printable stickers and tags and watch videos.
6. Make a Seuss inspired treat. From green eggs and ham to roast beast and pink ink drink, Dr. Seuss books provide many opportunities for fun and creative food. I made these cute little No Bake Cat In The Hat Cookies for my little guy’s Dr. Seuss themed birthday party. They were a hit and so easy to make! You don’t even have to turn on the oven. They would make a great after-school snack, movie treat or dessert. Get the recipe here.
We hope these 6 ways to celebrate Dr. Seuss's Birthday At Any Age will encourage you to love reading and to share that with others.
