This is fun! It should be easier than usual to spot Santa Claus making his magical journey from the North Pole tonight. Make sure to take a moment to enjoy the first full moon on Christmas since 1977.
Slooh astronomers will provide live observations of the Christmas full moon from the observatory at the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands, beginning at 5 p.m. MST on Thursday, Christmas Eve. You can watch the video feed for free with no membership fee required.
Plus, around 8 p.m. MST, you might be able to see a glimpse of a “Christmas Comet,” also known as Comet Catalina. Some believe the Star of Bethlehem that guided the wise men in the original Christmas story was actually a comet.
