Get a jump start on your weekend. There are tons of great fairs and festivals this weekend, along with multiple museums with Free admission, witches on display and much more.
Today (9/12), is the last day to reserve your spot for a Free Family Picnic on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 11:30am-2pm. The picnic will be to celebrate the BYU/Utah game with some lunch and some rivalry trivia. There will also be a well respected financial advisor available to answer financial questions. Festivals & Fairs:
Utah State Fair – Sept. 6-16. Enjoy PRCA Rode, Miss Utah Pageant, Demolition Derby, Livestock Exhibits, Carnival Rides and Concerts featuring Lonestar, Blues Traveler, Victoria Justice, Wilson Philips, Frank Caliende, Sheena Easton, Jars of Clay and more!
Tickets are $10/Adults, $7/Seniors or Youth and kids 5 and under are Free. Here are some discounts available:
- Sept. 11, 12 or 13: Fox 13 has a coupon for $3 off adult admission.
- Smith’s has discounted tickets and wristbands for the rides available. Through 9/16, stop by Smith’s to get your tickets and save an additional $3.
- Utah Happenings Book – There is a buy 1 admission, get 1 free admission in it. The $5 books are sold out online, but I have seen books in Walgreens and Smith’s.

Heritage Festival (Sandy) – Saturday, Sept. 15 at 11am-2pm at Historic Main Street Park (90 E 8720 S). Enjoy free food, entertainment, a vintage car show and inflatables for the kids.
Multicultural Festival at the Viridian (West Jordan) – Saturday, Sept. 15 at 11am-3pm (8030 S 1825 W). The festival will include musicians, dancers, artisans, crafts, vendors and community groups. Admission is free.
Annual Youth Fair (Farmington) – Saturday, Sept. 15 starting at 8am at Farmington Bay. This is a free event for youth 15 and younger. There will be airboat rides, free lunch, decoy tossing game, learn to bow fish and much more.
Explore the Trails Festival – September 14-16 at the Natural History Museum of Utah. Geared to getting families outdoors, you will use your senses to explore and observe nature on guided walking tours, learn to sketch with a scientific illustrator, get face-to-face with Utah's live animals and more. Included in museum admission, although there are also various free activities – go here for details.
Utah Pirate Festival (Willard Bay) – September 14-15 at the South Marina at Willard Bay. See the pirate crews vying to commandeer the best treasure. Shop, relax and enjoy the sun. Fees are $6/adults; $3/children 6-12; children 5 and under are free.
Puppet Festival (Orem) – September 15 from 10am-2pm at Orem City Center Courtyard (300 E Center St). Enjoy puppet shows,
Melon Days (Green River) – September 14-15. Enjoy a day at the park, annual duck race, parade, tournaments, concert from Charley Jenkins, all the melon you can eat and much more.
Apple Fest (Fillmore) – September 14-16. There will be apple pressing, hay wagon rides, zip lining, hot air balloon launch and more.
St. Lawrence Fall Festival (Heber) – September 15 behind the Wasatch County Building. Enjoy a farmer's market, dog sled rides, buggy rides, children's activities, live music and more.

Gardner Village Witch Displays – Th
e witches officially come out to play Friday, 9/14. Shop and see their hilarious display of plump, green-faced, wart covered witches dressed to the nines. Also, check out all the fun at Gardner Village such as Breakfast with a Witch, Witchapalooze Music Dinner Theater and more.
Freedom Foundation Concert – Friday, 9/14 at 7:30pm at the Tabernacle. Celebrate the 225th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution with patriotic music. Tickets are not required and admission is Free, go here for details.
Historic Huber Grove (Midway) – The apple orchard is open for picking on weekends in September by RESERVATIONS ONLY. Call the park Visitor Center at 435-654-1791 to reserve your two hour time slot and for more information.
The Utah Museum of Fine Arts offers FREE admission every 3rd Saturday of the month. This Saturday, Sept. 15 you can decorate your own paper racing goggles.
MOA Family Workshops (Provo) – Saturdays in August at BYU Museum of Art – Art Makes Sense! Exploring Taste in Think Flat: Takashi Murakami and Andy Warhol: Selections from the Freedman Family Collection at the BYU Museum of Art. On any one Saturday of their choice families can take a guided tour of a current exhibition and create a fun, hands-on art project, free of charge.
Bella's Birthday Bash – Saturday, Sept. 15 from 3-8pm at Megaplex at the District in South Jordan. Celebrate the end of the Twilight Saga early with cake, vendors with discounted Twilight merchandise, fun games, a photo booth and more. Snowbird Oktoberfest – Snowbird kicks off their annual Oktoberfest this weekend August 18. Admission is free. This event is full of music, dancing, and traditional German cuisine. Kids can enjoy face painting, caricature artist, inflatable rides, and more. Oktoberfest runs weekends and Labor Day through October 7.
Discovery Gateway Museum FREE Admission – Sunday, Sept. 16 is a Free day thanks to the ZAP program. Hours are Noon-6pm. You can also receive $10 off any family membership during this one-day-only event.
