Celebrate the 150th Anniversary of The Transcontinental Railroad with various events and exhibits. Here's some of our favorite events:
150th Golden Spike Anniversary Celebration (Salt Lake) – May 10 from 5-10 pm at The Gateway. Includes food trucks, ride on train, LEGO train display, music, and fireworks.
1869 Golden Spike Celebration (Heber) – May 10 at 5:30 pm at Heber Valley Railroad. The two-hour round trip train ride departs at 7pm. On board we’ll have live music, trivia, and other fun. After the train returns, you and whole valley will enjoy fireworks at 9:30pm, and we’ll have a bon fire and a celebration dance. Cost is $10 per ticket.
Bike the Spike (Salt Lake) – May 10 from 6-9 pm at Sugar House Park.
Art and culture along the S-Line through Sugar House and South Salt Lake. Celebrate the 150th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad completion along this historic Denver-Rio Grande line. Then end back at Beehive Distiling for a Spike 150 Celebration and Artist Reception with tastings and refreshments! Event is free, but registration is required.
Golden Spoke (Multiple locations) – May 11 from 7 am – 5 pm:
This free event presented by Intermountain Healthcare and SelectHealth will include a group bike ride that travels north from Vivian Park in Provo to High Adventure Park in Ogden. Additionally, there will be community events hosted along the way highlighting rail to trail segments and historic railroad bridges and offering rides of varying lengths.
Transcontinental Railroad 150th Anniversary Open House (Tooele) – May 11 from 11 am – 3 pm at Tooele Valley Museum. There will be games, exhibits, and other activities. This is a family friendly event and it's free.
Train Day (Salt Lake) – May 11 at This Is The Place Heritage Park; Celebrate the anniversary of the driving of the golden spike with half price admission.
