Saturday’s Waffle Review
If you’ve ever driven past Dan’s Market on Wasatch Blvd. on a Saturday morning, you may have noticed a line of people in front of a small silver trailer in the parking lot. This small, unassuming food truck is the home of Saturday’s Waffle and it is worth waiting in line.
Saturday’s Waffle offers a savory and sweet menu ranging from $3 to $10. The savory side of the menu offers such choices as the “Caprese”—mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, and a balsamic reduction—and the “Benny”—an egg-topped waffle with hollandaise sauce and bacon.
(S'more Waffle)
Being a sweet-tooth, I opted for the sweet side of the menu and chose the “S’more”—a liege waffle topped with speculoos (a peanut butter alternative crafted from gingerbread cookies), chocolate sauce, and toasted marshmallow cream. It was very rich (cue a nice cold cup of milk) but yummy.
(Lemon Raspberry)
A lighter choice, the “lemon raspberry” is one of my favorites. It is a liege waffle topped with fresh lemon curd and raspberries. It, too, is yummy with a refreshing blend of sweet and tart.
What is a liege waffle? Well, according to Saturday's Waffle website, “Liege waffles are dough based waffles and contain chunks of pearl sugar. This special type of sugar caramelizes on the outside of the waffle when baked and give[s] little explosions of sweetness as you bite into the waffle itself.” According to me, liege waffles are little tastes of heaven with a sweet, crunchy outside and a warm, fluffy inside.
(Chocolate, Vanilla Gelato Dessert Waffles)
Now open for dessert!
New this season, Saturday’s Waffle is open every Saturday between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. for Saturday dessert waffles. You will see a repeat of their sweet menu from breakfast with some new additions. I suggest the gelato waffle—it’s exactly what it sounds like: gelato on a waffle. They have three flavors: chocolate, lemon, and vanilla bean. The cool creaminess of the gelato pairs well with the warm crunchy waffle. It was scrumptious and only $3.
Saturday’s Waffle is located in the parking lot of the Olympus Hills Shopping Plaza, 3981 S. Wasatch Blvd. They are open every Saturday (“rain or shine”) from 8 a.m. to noon and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
