I'm starting something new. I'm going to try a new feature called “Try It Tuesday.” On Try It Tuesday I'll have various products or websites and even restaurants and stores up for review.
With Easter on the approach I thought I'd give Try It Tuesday and early debut and take a closer look at Eggies. Chances are you've seen these little guys in the store. I've seen them at Walmart, Smith's and Walgreens for $9.99. I personally ordered mine online WAY back in July, this review is LONG overdue.
At our house we cook a lot of egg whites and I thought these would be another way to add them to the menu. The little plastic containers come in 4 pieces. You have to oil each container separately, it's a little bit of a pain, but it went quickly enough with a pastry brush. You can also use a paper towel.
So, I got to crackin' and added the eggs to my little containers. I tried various ideas, adding seasoning to some. Just for laughs I separated a couple and blended green and blue food color into the white. And, then into the hot tub they went. Secure the band tightly, they can leak out and water can leak in if you don't.
How did they turn out? I love the soft boiled egg idea, no more egg shells in my soft boiled eggs. For deviled eggs, the shape is awkward and the whites don't look pretty and smooth. The whites come out kind of pitted. I would never use them for deviled eggs. The All Whites came out great and I would use them in salads or just for snacking.
As for my colored eggs, they turned out to be fun. It's something the kids or grand kids might enjoy doing once or twice. The green eggs would be cute in a salad for St. Paddy's day.
Overall however, the best use for these was for the soft boiled eggs. Now that I have them, I might use them for that but, they are kind of a awkward and a bit of a pain to clean. I don't think I would “shell” out the $10 bucks just for that. I'm planning on giving them a try with JELL-O next. Do you have a set of Eggies. I'd love to hear your experience.
Enjoy~
