St. George has an amazing new park that opened in October called Thunder Junction Park. Located at 1851 S Dixie Drive and next to the Tonaquint Park Complex. This is a park to put on your list if you live down south, are headed down south, or driving through and need a place for the kids to stretch their legs.
We recently visited this park while visiting St. George and were blown away with all that was packed into this fun park. Since it's still fairly new, we thought we would share our experience at the park along with a video tour.
At first, it appears to be like most any other park, but there are so many unique play areas that set this park apart – the first being a huge erupting volcano. It erupts smoke every 45 minutes along with rumbling noises. Inside the volcano is a huge covered picnic area that then leads to a tree-house area where you can climb to slides.
This park is also an all-abilities park with most of the equipment wheel chair accessible or able to support kids with special needs. There are also plenty of covered areas to provide shade as well as places to sit and picnic.
The park attractions are dinosaur themed and include ziplines, swings, climbing wall, slides, and more.
You'll also find a hands on music station.
The splash pad includes a massive waterfall that the kids can run through back into a cave.
Last of all is a train that travels around the park along a 2,700 foot track that goes through two tunnels, over a bridge, and across from the golf course. Admission to the park is free, however, if you'd like to ride the train there is a $1 fee per rider. The train is also wheel chair accessible. You may want to check their facebook page as the train does run on a schedule that can change or is sometimes shut down for maintenance.
It is definitely unlike any other park we have seen. The kids loved it and could've spent many hours here.
