Greetings fellow deal hunters, Joani here. I'm breaking away from all the Cyber Monday Madness for a moment and offering you a little distraction. I've teamed up with 14 of Utah's most influential bloggers to bring you a fun getaway giveaway.
Each of us has posted an article that has some information about fun things to see and do in Utah you might not have thought about. We've covered things from all over the state from secret hidden places, family fun and restaurants. Make sure to take a look. Then make sure to enter our giveaway. Happy Traveling.
Hi there! I'm Jessie from Utah Mom Connection, a site dedicated to helping Utah moms find fun things for their families to do, find uplifting mom inspiration, and discover all the amazing things that Utah has to offer.
Today I want to share with you one of our favorite places to go to have an adventure, and that is Shorelands Preserve. The Preserve is located west of Layton, just off of Gentile Street. When you first come to the Shorelands Preserve you might think you are lost, or that you have just stumbled on to a swampy marshland. Which, you kind of have. But it is SO much more than that.
Off in the distance you will see a wooden tower that just begs to be discovered and a charming wooden path will lead the way there. You will wind through tall grasses, water, and the sounds of wildlife all around you. My sons favorite is the chirping of the frogs. But my favorite reason why I love taking my kids here is that the environment invites them to use their imagination and creativity.
One time when we went, we brought a “secret map” that led us to the “magical tower” where we had to find the princess who was locked up and save the day! Another time, the tower became a pirate ship and we had to sail the seas and look for treasure. The tower has also been Rapunzel's house, an airplane, and just a plain old house. We have also used the tower for it's actual purpose, which is to spot birds and wildlife in the preserve.
There is also a pavilion that has tons of information on the wetlands, the wildlife, and the efforts to help them. It makes a great learning tool for older kids to learn about nature and the environment around them.
To get to the Shorelands Preserve you will want to take the Layton Parkway exit and then head west down Gentile Street and then take a left on 3200 West. It turns into a gravel road and you will travel down that road and enter through an arched gate. You'll see a path and just up ahead is the big pavilion and then you will find the path to lead you to the viewing tower.
We hope you have fun exploring and creating your own adventures! We are already looking forward to our next one at the Shorelands Preserve and we are always looking for new adventures to go on.
