We had the opportunity to see the Lythgoe Family Production of A Snow White Christmas tonight at the Rose Wagner Theatre located in Downtown Salt Lake City on 138 W. 300 South. Our family has never experienced a production quite like it with the music, dancing, and audience participation. It was definitely enjoyable for everyone of all ages. There were humorous references that kept the adults as well as the kids laughing throughout.
Now is a fun time of the year to head downtown and the Rose Wagner Theatre is a great venue. Taking Trax would be a great way to beat the crowds with a station stop just two blocks west of the theatre.
This is the basic story of Snow White, but with a twist of pop music, dancing, and jokes. The court jester Muddles (Jonathan Meza) keeps the audience engaged the entire show and encourages clapping, booing, and even flirted with one audience member. The kids can't help but get involved and feel a part of the show.
The vocal talents of The Prince (David Osmond) and Snow White (Amy Whitcomb from “The Voice”) do not disappoint. My four year old was especially excited when his most favorite song “Thriller” started playing and the dancers started to get down.
We also loved the cute little dwarfs with their big puffy heads and you couldn't help but enjoy booing every time the Wicked Queen (Margo Watson) came on stage.
What I especially liked about this production were the little extra touches they offered for the kids and family. There's a table set up with swords, wands, tiaras and more for as little as $3 to add an extra magical touch. The concessions stand offers treats for as little as $2, including rice krispy treats, brownies, cookies and more. And be sure to head upstairs where they offer a free photo op in front of the seven dwarfs cottage.
Also, a few lucky children are given “golden tickets” that allow them to come up on stage at the end of the show to help with a sing along and get a goodie bag. It appears that the “golden tickets” are handed out randomly before the show or during intermission. We were lucky enough to receive one after we got our photo taken upstairs.
I think my seven year old summed it up best when she announced at the end of the show,
“I didn't like it, I LOVED it”!
My kids were mesmerized the whole show. If you are looking for a fun and entertaining event to take your family to, look no further. The show runs through December 29th.
