How to make your own Root Beer Floats
There is something perfect about a root beer float on a hot summer's day. The creamy vanilla ice cream and the frothy root beer remind me of my childhood. For an extra special homemade root beer float, try making your own root beer! It is easier than you think and kids LOVE to watch the cold dry ice react with the water to make fog.
When it comes to the ingredients, they really aren't difficult to find. The rootbeer extract is usually found on the baking isle, near the spices. For the water, I just use tap water but any water will be fine. Dry ice is sold at most grocery stores, just ask your local store where they keep it. One thing to keep in mind, dry ice won't last forever. You will want to pick it up within a few hours of making your root beer.
If you want to make a larger batch of rootbeer, you can double this recipe for a gallon or for 16 quarts or 64 cups of rootbeer, use 10 cups sugar, 4 gallons of water, 1/2 cup of rootbeer extract and 4 lbs dry ice.
