Have you heard of Play Unplugged? This is a FREE program available through out Utah to help kids put down their electronics during the Summer and get out and play.
This program starts Memorial Weekend and runs through Labor Day Weekend. Kids can earn Brag Badges all Summer long to connect to their lanyards. A Brag Badge (shown in the image above) is a plastic tag similar to a “military dog tag” that represents a Play Unplugged challenge or activity.
There are dozens of activities connected to a Brag Badge. Kids earn a Brag Badge along with points for every activity they complete. Some examples of activities include hiking, fishing, stargazing, hunting for bugs and more. Once kids complete an activity they can pick up the brag badge from a local business or organization listed within your area.
You can even add your own rewards for each child based on how many Brags they have earned.
Many children may receive the Play Unplugged lanyard from participating public schools in the given area the program is in. You can find out if your area is participating here. If your child did not receive a lanyard or you want additional lanyards, you can find a lanyard distribution point in each area (there may be a nominal cost for additional lanyards). However, you don't necessarily need a lanyard to earn badges.
If you live outside of a Play Unplugged area, you can still participate in an area close to where you live. Or you can bring Play Unplugged to your area by contacting them here.
If you are interested, parents can sign their kids up for Free here. Sounds like a great way to keep the kids from boredom and have fun this summer!
