By now I'm sure you have all seen yesterday's news that Apple will be releasing their new iPhone 6 for sale in the US on Friday, September 19. Apple reports the new phones, with much larger screens, will have a longer battery life and better camera.
Did you see how their new Apple Pay technology that it has? Apple pay will allow you to pay at various merchants (220,000 of them so far) using your phone. If you missed it, USA Today has the details on how it works.
And how about that Apple Watch? (releases 2015) The Smart Watch is basically a mini fitness computer you wear on you wrist. It can monitor health and fitness, much like the Fitbit, but also has computer functions, like maps. What do you think? Are you ready to wear you technology on your wrist?
Now, while I have to admit the larger 5.5 screen on the iPhone 6 plus, is highly appealing to my old eyes and fat fingers. Plus, they have upgraded the camera too! That must be a pretty kick butt camera, as the old camera on my iPhone 4 and first generation iPad have been fabulous. In fact they have been the source of nearly every photo you've seen on the website, including the one above. Plus, hey, the watch must be better than my idea of a convenient way to pack your technology, right?
Being a huge Apple girl, I'm sure once the dust settles and the bugs are worked out, I'll be in the market for the new 5.5 version. Plus, it has just replaced my wish for an Apple Mini. But, for now, my budget isn't ready to trade in my old standby's for a new model just yet. Here's a couple of ideas that might help you rest easy with your old devise or save some money on a new one.
Considering fixing what you have. Is your home button broken and set to that annoying Assitive Touch? Or, do you have a broken power button? Maybe your camera no longer lines up correctly or, perhaps you have a cracked screen? Consider taking it to your local independent of Apple repair shop. There are several across the country, some even offer mail in repair.
My daughter and I had almost all of problems listed above on at least one of our combined (6) family owned Apple products. Now first off, I want to say they're old, at least as Apple technology goes. The warranty's are long gone and to be quite honest, they have served several years of good reliable function. But, the cheap in me wasn't ready to put them to the grave.
I headed to a store a friend of mine recommended, called Bad Apple. My friend said they could fix all my Apple woos and it would not cost me an arm and a leg. Sure enough, I can't say enough about them. Consider this a five star review of Bad Apple!
They fixed all the problems with our devices on the SAME DAY without an appointment. A home button repair is only $45.00. That was worth it's weight to me and I feel like it's new again. If you would rather go for a repair than get a new one, this is a place I can recommend you check out. There are locations in Salt Lake, South Jordan and Orem.
Go to BadAppleUSA.com for details. They have a handy price sheet right on their website.
Okay, so maybe you are itching to get your hands on one of these new devises and waiting just isn't an option. Before you give your old device to the kids to finish demolishing, or hand it over to your mobile service or the Apple store for the meager trade they give, make sure to take a look on Amazon first. You might be in for a nice surprise.
Amazon will take your old electronics in trade and give you store credit to use on anything else Amazon sells. They are currently paying as much as $400 for a 5s 64GB (depending on condition and carrier). I don't know about you, but that's a whole lot of Amazon Christmas shopping to me. You can go here to find the estimated value of your product>>
Last, I do want to mention, while Apple will not allow stores to discount their products, we often see stores offering gift cards with the purchase of an Apple devise, especially this time of year so make sure to watch for those. We'll also share them on the website when we see them. Pre-order on the phone will begin on Friday 9/12.
No matter which way you go, experience has taught us, that when it comes to the newest and greatest products, those that hold out, research, and shop around, end up paying less. Even when it's an Apple.
Is a new Apple product on your holiday wish list?
