The Living Planet Aquarium in Draper Utah has been undergoing some construction for their new outdoor plaza. Major construction has been completed, at least for the time being, and the outdoor plaza is now open.
There are still numerous updates that will be taking place to this outdoor space called the Rio Tinto Kennecott Plaza. This area is included with regular admission. As you walk around, you will find a stream, some playground structures (which were closed off when we visited), gathering place, and gardens.
This is a fun area to walk around to see various plants. However, there is still a lot left to be completed. They will be adding a zipline, rock art grotto (kids can paint on the rocks), musical instruments, water table, and more interactive play areas soon.
And further in the future is their Science Learning Center – that sounds amazing! It will be a 90,000 square foot facility that will run between the outdoor plaza and the freeway. It will include a 5-story Asian Cloud Forest gallery, new animal and interactive exhibits, laboratories, class rooms and more.
For a limited time, they are also offering Nights Under Lights. This includes entertainment and mesmerizing lights on the outdoor tower called the EECO. Tickets are $5-15 (members receive a discount)
If you go to the new Rio Tinto Kennecott Plaza, don't expect a whole lot to do just yet. It is opened and it's a fun little walk, but there is a lot left to be added.
