No More Large Target Shopping Lists:
Yesterday I had planed on doing 3 coupon match-ups. So after my fun trip to Whole Foods I stopped by Target. My purchases were small. Just 16 items and I only had 2 Target coupons and 6 manufacturers coupons. It should have been a breeze. I had, yet again, problems with the coupons not ringing up for the correct amounts. It took me over 30 minutes to check out. Plus, I still had to make a trip to customer service to have the money for 1 of my coupons that did not ring up for the correct amount refunded.
It made me start to think…. I'm attempting to try to help busy people with this blog. If I don't have success, how can I feel good about posting it for you. So, as a result I have decided not to post anymore large grocery list coupon match-ups for Target. Until they fix this ongoing and what seems to be intentional problem. Discontinuing the Target posts will allow me more time to spend at other stores. Die hard Target shoppers, you will want to check out Totally Target. The prices vary, but it's the best Target resource I've found for Utah shoppers.
I'll still fill you in on the great quick Target Deals, like the recent FREE socks and items worth a quick trip. But, no more large shopping lists. Overall savings on large shopping trips are the same at most stores if you watch the sales. And, the big coupon shopping lists are hugely time consuming because I like to visit the store before I make the post.
If you have experienced coupon problems at Target you can register a complaint with Target at 1-800-440-0680.
There are a couple of news stories on this issue HERE and a follow up story HERE (video as well). Plus, Totally Target has given some tips on this issue HERE. Hopefully someday soon Target will have a solution and we can rediscover Target together. In the meantime look forward to more complete deals at Walmart, Smith's and WinCo! And, just a few clever money saving ideas at Target. Thanks!
Happy Saving!

October 12, 2010 at 11:20 amThe last few weeks I have consistently had problems at Target (hence no more “look what I got!” emails. It is really disappointing. I have called corporate and voiced my opinion about the registers causing the problems and have yet to see a change. It’s a shame that they are ‘forcing’ me to shop at Walmart who has never given me a problem. I support your efforts!

October 12, 2010 at 9:06 amThanks Brea! Great comments. As, I said I’m not jumping ship. Just no more big coupon shopping lists. They are hugely time consuming and overall savings are the same other places. So, only quick deals at Target for now. Frankly, now that the media has gotten hold of it, I don’t think it will too much longer and Target may go in the complete opposite coupon direction and be our coupon delight. We can all hope.

October 12, 2010 at 8:27 amI shop at Target usually every couple of weeks. The Ft. Union Target is my favorite, with Southtowne at #2. Frankly, I’ve kinda gotten used to having struggles at just about every store using coupons, so Target issues don’t bother me especially when 90% of the time, I have great cashiers who will quickly fix mistakes. The only time I hate shopping at Target is when I get a bad cashier, who doesn’t know their coupon policy and gives me ridiculous comments like, “You can’t use coupons on clearance items or 1 per purchase means you can only buy 1 item.” Since I know the rules and am used to having to explain things over and over to cashiers everywhere, I figure it’s worth it for me to risk the potential bad cashier, when I can get free and super cheap things!!

October 11, 2010 at 11:35 pmAudrey,
This time I was at Super Target Fort Union. I was actually excited about going to a different location than my usual. But, it hasn’t just been them. The coupon problem has been ongoing for me. My favorite Target remains Super Target Southtowne. And, I really have nothing bad to say about the employees. They are just trying to make a living. I haven’t been to the new store. I’m not washing my hands of them. I just don’t feel I can promote them until they resolve this issue. It’s unfair to readers. Particularly people new to using coupons. It’s difficult enough learning the ropes add kids to the mix and aughhhh…..It’s enough to make someone say forget it. My goal here was to simplify coupon use for those that want to save a little but not spend hours at it. Target just isn’t that fit right now. Sad thing is, I think that kind of reader is exactly what Target would like to see as a customer.

October 11, 2010 at 11:07 pmOk, this problem started up months ago at Target for me. I have a stack of coupons and I WATCH them go through even at the correct amounts and I get my receipt and…voila! They have been “mysteriously” changed to different amounts or deleted completely. This then requires me to haul up to customer service with a manager, pull all my coupons from drawer, deal with 30 min of brain damage figuring it out, and then have the manager have to re ring all my items through again. With a 12 month old this isn’t fun and completely dishonest and ridiculous. I had to stop shopping there. I called customer service and they could care less. SO FRUSTRATING because I loved Target before this. It shouldn’t have to take an additional hour to fix coupons that are indeed purposely being changed by their computer system. Nor should I feel like a criminal fighting with the cashier when not one coupon will ring through and I have the correct items. By Target! Good move C4U!

October 11, 2010 at 7:27 pmI stopped shopping at Target a month or two ago. That was after giving them another shot after NOT shopping there for a year. I’ve always had issues with using my coupons there and poor managers, etc. Now coupons are not ringing up for what the amount on the coupon is. Seems intentional to me, too. I read hundreds of comments on hip2save.com about people across the nation are having this same problem. I’m going to email them and let them know they’ve lost my business. We should all do that and maybe they’d eventually change…But for now I am loving my Super Walmart in Sandy. They price match EVERYTHING. (Target has so many rules I haven’t been able to yet) AND Walmart takes all my coupons. WAHOO!!!
