It's time again for another C4U Hands 4 Helping post. Happiest of Holiday's to all our friends in our little coupon community. As we here at Coupons4Utah gear up to spend time with our families it is my deepest wish that you have a safe and uneventful holiday. Please visit the home page as we have lined up some of our favorite posts.
I wanted to close this year with a personal post. I find myself tongued tied at just where to begin. Just one short week ago our family lost a loved one. It was an unexpected and heart wrenching loss of my Mother.
In late November, just one day after our movie event, my mother went in for a routine medical procedure. The Doctor performing the procedure made a terrible mistake and my mother was not able to recover from the complications. This common procedure ended up costing my young at heart and otherwise well mother her life.
As I try to find some semblance of peace and forgiveness during these early stages of grieving my emotions have run the gamut, from anger, reflection, gratitude and guilt. And, my heart breaks for the little ones that love and cherish my mom, as they try so hard to understand.
It seems no coincidence that the local Utah charity I wanted to introduce you to for this month's Hands 4 Helping is commented to helping children grieve when they lose a parent. And with a heavy heart and emotions running so high, I can not think of a more fitting charity to sponsor this month.
As my family grieves and finds comfort in holding one another close, there are many things I have become grateful for and I've found that focusing on the positive has been a pertinent step towards the long beginning of our healing process. Please join me in thanking the amazing Coupons4Utah staff, who has kept the deals coming, while I've been caring for my mother these past months. The friends who have come out of the woodwork to support my family and businesses we've worked with throughout the year, have all helped to keep me going from day to day.
My mother was a very active, had a great love for the outdoors and was the kind of grandmother we all either aspire to be or are grateful to have. Her dedication to the children in her life went above the call of duty and I believe she would be proud to have us sponsor this particular charity. I can not imagine a more apropos place to put our earned dollars as we close this year.
This year we will close the year with a donation to The Sharing Place located in Salt Lake City on 1695 East 3300 South. This amazing facility was founded by a mother (Chris Chytraus) who was seeking help for her two young children after the death of their father. Since their inception in 1993 they have helped 100's of Utah Children deal with greif.
The Sharing Place provides kids with a safe place they can share and remember their lost parent with other kids in their situation with the guidance of adults that understand. From it's humble beginnings in a small office, the Sharing Place now has fourteen support groups for children ages 3-18 as well as providing parents a place to meet separately in groups to help their needs as well. The video below tells it all.
The feelings of isolation a child must have when they lose a parent must, at times, must seem unbearably lonely. I have no doubt the donation we make because of your page views will help to put some children who are missing their parent in a better place.
Have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year my frugal friends. And, as my Mom was so fond of saying, Carpe Diem.

My heart aches for you and your loss. Like Danielle, I too lost my father to cancer a few months ago beginning of October. He was only 57 and the healthiest and most fit man you would ever know. To see his suffering for a year was more than anyone should have to endure. Yet through it all, he never complained. When he passed his fit body was a little over a 100lbs and deteriorated by cancer. I feel your loss, anger, frustration. I have experienced these all and continue to experience as I try and wrap my brain around the tragedy of loosing him so young. It’s a journey that is long and painful, but it is people like you and your blog that make waking up a little easier. May you find peace and love in all the people you help, and by giving back and paying forward. You are in my prayers Joani.

December 23, 2014 at 10:59 amJoani, I have followed your blog for years now and consider you an internet blog “friend” and this just breaks my heart. I cannot imagine the tragic pain you must feel. I lost my father this year. He had been battling lung cancer for about a year and although there was not a day that was easy he completed all treatments the doctors requested of him. When the treatments were completed he went in for Xrays and the doctor gave him a clean bill of health. He told him the cancer was gone and to go home and celebrate. They were driving home from SLC to Southern Utah when the doctor called back and pretty much told him…”Oops, we looked at the wrong Xray from months ago. Your Xrays this time show the cancer is back & in multiple places. We need you back up here asap.”…He was gone 2 weeks after that phone call. Not so much because the cancer had spread but because the doctor had dealt him a blow he could not handle after being given so much hope and promise. I know its not the same situation…but I remember the anger and sadness I felt all at the same time. We are here for you. Lots of love to you and your family!
