Last week a group of 3 women were arrested in Arizona on charges of suspicion of running the largest counterfeit coupon ring in the country. Investigators seized more than $25 million worth of fraudulent free product coupons along with 22 assault weapons, 21 vehicles, and a 40-foot boat.
Investigators discovered the coupons were being sold through the website, Savvyshoppersite.com and on Ebay. You can read more about this story here at Business Insider. If you have purchased any of these free product coupons, be sure to destroy them, as you can be arrested for using them.
With this news, I wanted to take a minute to let new readers know about Coupons4Utah, stance on the subject of buying and selling coupons. We DO NOT promote or recommend that you purchase a grocery coupon online from ebay or coupon clipping services. I've had many clipping services contact me, offering to pay for reviews of their service and traffic to their site. These offers have always been refused by us.
If you are purchasing your coupons online, I would recommend you find out where these coupons are coming from before purchasing as they are easily counterfeited or obtained illegally. Newspapers, the US Postal Service and other coupon distributors are required by contract to destroy undeliverable coupons.
The CIC (Coupon Information Corporation) would like us to remind you, in regards to purchasing grocery coupons online:
1. Never pay money for coupons or coupon related “opportunities”
2. Beware of invalid disclaimers, such as “You are not paying for the coupons, but for the time and effort it took to clip them.”
3. Be wary of any coupon emailed to you by anyone but the manufacturer or its authorized distributor.
4. If a coupon is visible on a computer screen, it is probably counterfeit.
5. Free product coupons are seldom, if ever, distributed on the Internet.
6. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.”
Happy Clipping
