Brighton a Day Foundation
Many people have heard the heartbreaking story about the Tenney family and the passing of their daughter Brighton. She was 4 years old when they lost her to RSV, pneumonia and a lung infection – it was devastating for their family, and they weren’t sure they could endure it.
However, the support and kindnesses of family and friends were plentiful, and with each act of love it lessened the pain, brought a small ray of sunshine, and somehow lifted their spirits. As the days went on and friends and strangers continued to bless them, they felt a great desire to give back – to pay it forward.
Within a few weeks they began the #Brightonaday campaign. It started on Facebook with posts about ways that people were brightening someone else’s day, and quickly had thousands of followers.
Soon after, they created small business cards with Brighton’s picture and story, which people could share when they did a good deed, hoping it would encourage the recipient to do the same. It has been a labor of love, and has helped to ease the pain of their loss.
This is an illness that affected Coupons4Utah on the home front. Many of you may remember the Instagram photo we shared of Heather posting a diaper deal, while passing time during labor (that's our Heather). Just 4 months later her sweet baby boy came down with a very sever case of RSV. The treatments were daily, long and invasive and he is still feeling repercussions from his illness.
Brighton’s 5th birthday would have been this month – so to celebrate her life, and continue the campaign of kindness, the Tenney family has officially begun the Brighton a Day Foundation: A non-profit organization whose goal is to bring hope and happiness to suffering and heartbroken families. Their first big event will be a birthday party for Brighton – and everyone is invited! There will be games, food and lots of fun. Their goal is to raise money to get the foundation on its feet while letting everyone share in Brighton’s special day.
The Tenney family realizes that not everyone who loses a child has the support that they did, and they want to help change that. The foundation will be a way to give some light to families in dark times.
Today 5/19, they are asking everyone to Brighton a Day and then share what they did on the Brighton a Day Facebook page. The kick-off party for the Foundation is set for May 20th from 5 – 9 pm at Shay Park in Saratoga Springs (516 W. Aspen Hills Blvd).
