On Thursday March 20, Amazon will be raising the cost of a Prime Membership from $79 to $99. The student membership will also increase from $39 to $49.
Amazon is justifying the increase by saying that it's needed due to fuel and freight inflation. While they have not raised the cost of a Prime membership in 9 years, one still can't help but wonder, if the development of their Drones delivery program isn't being passed along to Prime members.
If you don't have an Amazon Prime membership, you may want to consider getting one before the price goes up. You can sample a 30 day trial free of charge and secure the lower price (students get first 6 mo free trial).
Our family has been prime members for many years. We share our membership with other family members (find out how here). I love all the perks of Amazon Prime, the movies alone are a good benefit. Even when you only use the free shipping 6 or 7 times a year, it's still a pretty good value if you use the movie and book benefits. However, I personally will be debating a little harder about joining again when my membership is up.
What do you think? Will you keep your Prime membership?

March 20, 2014 at 8:04 pmI’m sad about the increase, but I will still be renewing. I often wonder how Amazon can make money with the deals I am able to score shipped in a mere two days to my door. I just hope that the increase will stop here for a while. I find unbelievable value just in the products and we don’t even use the movies! I also find that I save money with the prime in the way that I used to buy unnecessary items to get up to my minimum to ship.
