Happy Day Utah. Here's a fun little video to start your day with about small towns in Utah. Laverkin, Goshen, Peoh are some of the many on the list.
Utah has a lot of wonderful small towns and I have to admit, while I am a “city girl” at heart and in spirit, there are days when I crave the quite sanctuary of a small town.
Hubby grew up in Kaysville in the '50's. And, while it's growth has changed it considerably, he shares simple stories of ice skating on frozen ponds, eating wild blueberries in the hollow and the mischief they got into riding the wild ponies that grazed in a neighboring farmers field.
I guess putting it into perspective, the Salt Lake I grew up in, during the '60's and 70's, wasn't exactly a large city by today's standard. After all, Heber City just made livability's top 10 small town list, which I've often said, while traveling through, that it reminds me of Salt Lake during the time I grew up. Do you remember dragging State Street and hanging out at Taco Time? Or, stopping by Frost Top for a root beer float?
This leaves me to wonder, do I really crave the small town of today or, just the simpler times when kids played with actual toys on Christmas morning and used their imagination everyday of their lives. A time when folks had real converstaions on park benches in front of the local soda shop, instead of texting to a friend about whatever funny thing their cat happens to be doing at the time.
There are a lot of little towns in this video, I've never heard of, Ophir where there are ghost towns exhibits, Koosharam, where the the coffee shop in the middle of nowhere, draws rave reviews from travelers and, Toquerville, that is known for it's swimming hole falls just made my “road trip to do list”
Do you live in a small town? What do you love about it?
