Happy National Popcorn Day! January 19th is National Popcorn Day and I have a delicious Take 5 Popcorn recipe that you are gonna flip over! If you love Take 5 candybars, then you will love this ooey, gooey, crunchy, peanutty, chocolatey, salty, sweet, caramel popcorn.
Before we start, this recipe makes ALOT of popcorn. Perfect for a party or a movie night with friends. Feel free to cut the recipe in half if you are having a small gathering. (Recipe adapted from USA Silly Yaks, Peanut Butter Popcorn with Chocolate Drizzle.)
First, pop 1.5 cups of popcorn kernels in a hot air popcorn popper. I can pop 1/2 cup at a time, so I popped 3 batches of popcorn and sifted out the kernels. This is so important! Check out this great tip from our friend Ashley Marie on how to quickly remove the unpopped popcorn kernels.
**Tip:I always use my roasting pan for making large batches of popcorn. It is 16 x 12 x 4.5 and it makes it so easy to stir the caramel mixture into the popcorn. This Granite Ware Roaster is a great size and price and it has great reviews.
Second, pour 1.5 cups of salted peanuts and 1.5 cups of broken pretzel stick pieces onto the top of the popcorn. (Break pretzel sticks into bite size pieces. I break mine in half and then in half again.)
- Next, combine sugar, honey and corn syrup in a large saucepan. Bring to a rolling boil for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Move pan off of the heat and add peanut butter and vanilla.
- Stir until peanut butter is completely melted.
- Pour peanut butter mixture over popcorn, pretzels and peanuts. Moving quickly, use a large spoon to toss the peanut butter mixture and popcorn mixture. Completely coat all of the popcorn.
- Pour the popcorn into wax paper and spread it out to cool.
- While popcorn is cooling, melt milk chocolate chips in the microwave. Melt for 30 seconds at a time and stir, repeat until completely melted. (My microwave takes approx 3 times or a total of 90 seconds to melt a bag of chocolate chips.) Using a spoon, drizzle melted chocolate over the popcorn.
When the chocolate has hardened, break popcorn apart and serve. Popcorn can be stored in an airtight container for several days.

- Be sure to remove any unpopped popcorn kernels after popping. It can really hurt to bite down on a kernel and can even break a tooth.
