Merco Local April Box Did you get your Merco Local Box? I enjoyed my little Merco Box and hope you did too.
Merco Local boxes are designed, packed and distributed by small local businesses, including Merco Local who is a start up company with a passion for local business. The four employees hand pack each and every box, hoping to introduce you to new products and local Utah companies.
What was in the Merco Local April Box
Mason Jar Coffee Roasters: Sample and $10 online gift card – This is a brick and mortar coffee shop located in Ogden. I haven't been there but I hear it's pretty fabulous. I drink coffee and I'll tell you what, the coffee was crazy good. If you aren't a coffee drinker pass this along to someone you know that is and they will love you for it. Also, if you loved your sample you can stop by the Mason Jar Coffee Roasters Facebook page and give them a high five!
Les Medelines Cafe: 3 Madelines – Have you been to Les Madelines? If not you might stop by the next time you are in downtown Salt Lake. This trendy cafe/bakery is fabulous. They also offer baking classes and have online ordering and delivery. The next time you want to send someone a special gift, keep it local and check them out. Visit Les Madelines on Facebook.
Eco Treasures Soap Nuts: Soap Nuts and 20% off coupon – I have never tried or even heard of these little Soap Nuts distributed on Etsy by shop owner Stacy from West Jordan. You put 4 or 5 in the wash bag and then then use them in place of laundry detergent. Before you roll your eyes, you might want to give them a try. This grass roots product is fragrance free, hypoallergenic and 100% biodegradable. Plus, they have rave reviews on the web. If you aren't ready to give up your Tide just yet, you can also use them in plain water instead of household cleaning products.
Fit Me Tea: 3 Loose Leaf Teas and bags for steeping. Fit Me Tea is an online start-up business located in Utah. They hand pick high quality loose leaf teas that are designed to help you get going, recover, relax, and refresh, while boosting you with whole leaf goodness. Fit Me Tea on Facebook

Ashley's Apothecary: Healing Salve – Ashley's Apothecary is distributed online via Etsy. They make lotions and salves that are designed to help Utah's dry skin and give relief to those that suffer with eczema. They use all natural products in their therapies and were recently featured on Studio5.
Last are the gift cards:
Rodizio Grill – $10 gift card
Ballet West Gift Card – Buy 1 ticket, get 1 50% off
Downtime Yoga – Free Yoga Class
Our Childrens Earth – $5 Gift Card
On a personal note: I am looking forward to future boxes and while some of the products in the boxes may not be for me, overall the boxes are very cool and I look forward to seeing what Merco Local has in store for us next. While I'm not sure if I will continue a subscription for the entire year. The products and local brand awareness they have brought to me is wonderful. Go here to learn more about Merco boxes.
Happy Localing!

April 4, 2014 at 8:45 pmI got my box and I’m quite impressed with most of it I love coffee and that’s good coffee. I am also a fan of tea and the protein shake stuff my hubby likes along with the bar. I have to say the soap nuts are a little different I’ve never heard of them abd when looking through all the goodies with the hubby cause he brought the mail in. And I’m not a “read all the instructions” type when I’m excited lol and I didn’t read that they were soap and add the hubby and I were trying to figure out what they were I tried to get him to eat one ..oops but I am willing to try them out and now I know they exist thank you for posting about these boxes

April 4, 2014 at 6:04 pmI’m so sorry to hear that readers were mean! Why I didn’t personally like my box, I would never be rude about it. You gave us all an awesome opportunity to try the service for free, so people really need to take that into consideration. I think this box is really specific to certain tastes, and while I didn’t like it I am sure there will be allot that do. Thanks for all you do!

April 5, 2014 at 10:08 amThanks Crystal. You are right. These boxes are not going to be for everyone. I would not begrudge anyone that cancels. Hopefully in the future they can lower the price or to beef them up, but I think they are barely breaking even on them now and until they grow they probably won’t be able too. They are actually purchasing some of the gift cards and products from the companies that can’t afford to give them free. I was a little sad when they sent me some of the comments during the cancellation process though. Like you said, you don’t have to be rude when you cancel, just cancel. It was a little embarrassing. Awe well.

April 8, 2014 at 4:25 pmOh that makes me sad to hear that people had to be so negative. Also sad to hear they are barely breaking even. It’s an excellent idea, and I thought March’s box was AMAZING! Thanks for all you share with us!

April 4, 2014 at 2:27 pmI ordered this box, because I thought it sounded neat. I have to admit, most of the items are not for me. I dont drink coffee or tea, the bead thins seem a little weird. But, I am willing to give the company another try to support local companies.

April 4, 2014 at 2:39 pmTo me this box was quite specific to certain tastes. Not all things are for everyone. It’s hard when you don’t know what’s going to be them especially if money is tight. I don’t know what will be in the next box. If I get a peek I’ll let you know though.

April 4, 2014 at 1:47 pmI only did this because of your teaser post about a “high value” rodezio gift card coming in the next box. Um, 10 bucks is not high value, and now in order to use it, I have to purchase 2 full adult options. 🙁

April 4, 2014 at 1:55 pmI think saving $10 at Rodezio is very high value especially considering they never have coupons. Sorry you aren’t happy with your box. Make sure if you don’t want further boxes you cancel your subscription http://www.mercobox.com/contact-us/
