The Tips & Tricks of Winco
Using coupons at WinCo is pretty straight forward. But, here is a list of a few things that are good to know.
Look for the Green Extra Savings sticker:
Like Walmart's Rollback sticker. You want to watch for those green WinCo stickers. In addition WinCo is pretty good about matching the sale items up with current coupons. We love stores that do that.
Winco Ads:
WinCo does not put out a weekly ad.This is my least favorite thing about WinCo. It makes it very hard to plan a shopping trip. My advise is to scrape up all the coupons have before you head out the door.
About every 4-8 weeks WinCo sends out a circular to the lucky people that live with in what they consider to be their shopping radius. These circulars most often have store coupons in them and they can be combined with manufactures coupons for added savings.
WinCo and Coupons:
WinCo is very coupon friendly, but expect that if you have more than $10.00 worth of coupons a manager will have to be called to overide.
WinCo only takes coupons that will scan. So print well. Their scanners work very well however, I've handed over some I thought would never scan (low ink) and they scanned without a problem.
And, as I've said before, I can not stress enough. Read your coupon and make sure you are getting the right item and quantities to match your coupon. If we all did this there would be so few grumpy checkers and a lot less scrutinizing.
Stay Away From:
WinCo makes money on toiletries items. Unlike Walmart, I stay away from the personal care section at WinCo. I have rarely found a toiletries item at Winco for a reasonable price. Stick with Walgreens, Rite Aid, Target and Walmart for these items. Even the travel items are $.25 – $.40 higher than other places.
WinCo does not price match.
WinCo has a wonderful bulk foods section!
If you like shopping the bins it's hard to find a better price. Especially on the spices!
WinCo and produce:
I've found WinCo's produce to be hit and miss both on price and freshness. Potatoes, banana's and other more common produce items seem to be the best value. But, some times the rest of the produce looks a little haggard.
WinCo Locations:
The big drawback. Only 2 locations in Utah.
Midvale:
7020 S. 700 W. Midvale, UT 84047
West Valley:
2572 S. 5600 W. West Valley, UT 84120
But take heart, they have announced to new locations are coming soon to Orem and Ogden.
