I just wanted to take a moment to wish all of you a very Happy Halloween. I had a special opportunity, to spend Halloween with some pretty amazing folks, our brave servicemen and women serving overseas and thought I would share with you, a little about Halloween Military style.
To me, Halloween on base is reminiscent of many of those Halloween movies you see on TV, where small towns streets are full of kids and adults in costume. Everyone seems to know everyone else in this safe and close knit community. No one goes from door to door. Instead, the complex streets are lined with people passing out candy. They set up canopies with spooky Halloween displays as the kids pack the streets in their costumes.
The Officers housing is the hot spot. Kids know the treats there will be extra special. The base fireman drives around looking for kiddos to greet and hands out special glow sticks along with handfuls of sweet treats. It was by far one of  the most heartwarming experiences I've had the honor of watching.
Of coarse, all of us recognize and appreciate our military service members when they are in action but, when you see this mobile community, that is willing to up-root at anytime, in their home environment, kids, pets and spouses in tow, it makes you feel an even stronger sense of the gratitude. This unique group of people, that are so are willing to give such a large piece of their life, that in their humble words, is just part of the job, deserve to be saluted.
This Halloween, while you're out, watching over your little ones, I hope you'll take a moment to enjoy their happy skipping and laughter, appreciate the broken glow stick, the untied shoe lace, the begging to open just one piece of candy and remember the families that give so much to keep us safe.
Enjoy the Chocolate
