So…You are at the checkout, with your coupons on card and…What!! No coupons??
I've only ever had 1 coupon (update now it's 2) that I loaded on to my Smith's card not work, but if you are experiencing problems with your coupons not being deducted at check out, here are some things that might help.
1-Make sure you have registered the correct card number to your account.
According to all 3 websites this is the most common error.
2-Make sure you are buying the correct item – size matters!
When you load the coupon to your card, take note of the quantity and size requirement of the coupon. Unlike paper coupons that sometimes scan even if you haven't gotten the correct item, coupons downloaded won't work if you don't get the intended item!
3-While it seems tempting to download every coupon on the site, I don't recommend it.
It makes keeping track of what you have a little more difficult and it clutters your card. I'm not sure it that matters, but it seems like it could. Like clipping, I only download the coupons I think I will use. You might think you have a coupon for something and don't. If you just want some little surprises then – go for it – download them all. But, I like to walk out with the cheap stuff, so I'm a little more planned at what I put on my card.
4-Give the coupon time to load:
I like to wait at least at least a couple of hours.
5-Watch the expiration date.
And finally:
6-For me the most important: COMPLAIN!!
Even if it's only $.50. These companies get paid to get the eCoupons out to the public so make them keep their promise.
…But, not to the checker or even the store manager they can't really help you, so why spoil their day? All 4 of the places we can get eCoupons from have a specific process for filing a complaint. And, if you take the time to do it, it forces them into necessary improvements. As, I mentioned earlier I've only ever had 1 coupons (Update: now 2) not come off. It was from Shortcuts, when I entered the required information through their complaint process, I received a $1.00 check not too long after. Now they just put a credit on your card.
- Link here for Cellfires complaint page – simple form to fill out.
- Link here for Shortcuts complaint page – select “coupon redemption” in the pull down menu – select “coupon didn't redeem – and follow the directions.
- For Smith's contact the Fresh Values Customer Service. (800)764-8897 or link here to send them an email. They should respond within 24 hours with directions on what to do.
- Be prepared with your receipt. All 3 places will request information from it.
I hope this helps. Remember the squeaky wheel….How can they fix it, if they don't know its broken?…blah blah you know the rest.

April 23, 2010 at 2:15 pmI am so glad you posted this! I had two coupons from shortcuts that didn’t work today and figured “Oh well.” Then I saw your post, went onto their website and they loaded the money onto my Smith’s value card almost immediately! (Now hopefully that will work..!)
